Update on Dutch editions of Blackthorn & Grim

I've had a lot of queries from readers in the Netherlands about the Luitingh-Sijthoff editions of Tower of Thorns and Den of Wolves.  I've been advised by the publishers that they have put the Dutch edition of Tower of Thorns on hold because of lower than expected sales for Dreamer's Pool and the Shadowfell series. I'm sad about this and I know my loyal Dutch readers are too, but there [...]

Travel Report Dec 2016

Readers, I owe you an apology - it's now two and a half weeks since I got home from the US, and I've been too tired and jet-lagged to post about my trip or to thank the various people who were so lovely and helpful along the way.  The image above is of me reading from Den of Wolves at the Jolie Tea Company in Salem - it was [...]

Meet and greet in Salem: details

Hi all. I've just created an 'event' on Facebook for my visit to Salem, Mass. It'll be a meet and greet at the Jolie Tea Company (opposite the Hawthorne Hotel) between 6 and 8pm on Friday November 11. Details at this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/1829575457280679/ If you'd like to come, please put your name on the Event page as Interested or Attending. It's quite a small venue so numbers are limited. There [...]

Progress Report November 2015

Hi all and apologies for not posting more regularly. I am really under the pump work-wise just now with the manuscript for Blackthorn & Grim Book 3 due to be submitted by the (extended) deadline of late January, so I am not attending to my social media very well. I have done a recent interview with the lovely Anne Gracie for Word Wenches, where she and I discuss Dreamer's Pool, [...]

Tower of Thorns audiobook news

We're getting close to the release date for Tower of Thorns (Blackthorn & Grim book 2) and I'm excited to share the news that the audiobook edition from audible.com is now in production! Like Dreamer's Pool, Tower of Thorns has three characters who share the narration chapter by chapter. For the audiobook edition we have, again, Natalie Gold reading Blackthorn's chapters and Nick Sullivan reading Grim's chapters - in this [...]

Thoughts on Point of View

How do you decide which point of view to use when writing a story – first person, third person, a combination, or something else like a diary, letters, or even second person? How do you know which will work best for your particular story? The reader who raised this question asked me whether I deliberately chose first person for my young adult books (the Wildwood and Shadowfell books) because it [...]

Progress Report: July 2015

Half way through the year already - where has the time gone? Blackthorn & Grim book 3 is due in at the end of 2015 and I still have quite a bit of it to write. It's relatively rare for a novelist to make a living at it. Most of us have day jobs and/or a partner contributing to the family finances. Many professional writers have children to look after, and although we [...]
