Here’s an updated version of my program for Worldcon in Helsinki next week. All my events are at the main convention venue, Messukeskus:

Thursday Aug 10, 10:00 – 11:00
Panel: A Stitch in Time: Historical Fantasy
Historical Fantasy: What is it and how does it differ from fantasy or historical fiction? What makes for good historical fantasy? What are some variations within this genre? How can it illuminate our understanding of the past and future?
(Juliet Marillier, Pete Sutton, J.A. McLachlan, Heather Rose Jones, Aliette de Bodard)

Thursday Aug 10, 17:00 – 18:00:
Panel: A World of Acclaim: Awards from Around the World
The Hugos and Nebulas are well unknown, but what other awards are there around the world? The panelists discuss their favourite SF awards from all corners of the world.
(Taiyo Fujii, Dirk van den Boom, Juliet Marillier, Kevin Standlee)

Friday Aug 11, 14:00 – 15:00:
Panel: Other Side of the World: Space, Place and Australian Fantasy
The panel will discuss writing fantasy from Australia, in Australia and outside Australia. It is interesting how the Anglo-American tradition of fantasy is adapted or adopted by Australian fantasy writers, who live and work in the ‘other’ hemisphere. It will cover not just the craft of writing fantasy, but also how Australian fantasy writers interact with international genre communities and publishing contexts.
(Angela Slatter, Kim Wilkins, Lisa L. Hannett, Juliet Marillier)

Saturday Aug 12, 13.00 – 14.00
My stint in the signing area – please come and talk to me!

Saturday Aug 12, 18:00 – 19:00
Panel: Creating a Fantasy Novel from Mythology
Myths, legends and folklore are often excessively complex and varied. How do you create a coherent fantasy novel for today’s audience from this tangled web?
(Juliet Marillier, Mark Tompkins, Maura McHugh, Ellen Kushner, Helena Waris)
