Awards

Some news on the awards front! Both The Harp of Kings and A Dance with Fate are finalists in this year’s Tin Duck Awards, in the category Best Professional Work – Long Form. Why both? Because these awards were not run in 2020. My novels are up against some worthy contenders (and, of course, having two books in the same category may mean my vote is split between them.) But it’s always nice to be on the ballot.  The Tin Ducks are Western Australia’s annual awards for excellence in various categories of speculative fiction. They’re awarded at Perth’s annual SF&F convention, Swancon, which means we’ll know the result on the evening of April 25, Western Australian time. UPDATE: Swancon was postponed because of a snap Covid lockdown – at this point no new date has been advised.

Mother Thorn is a finalist in this year’s Aurealis Awards in the category Best Collection. Two of the stories, Pea Soup and The Witching Well, are finalists in Best Young Adult Short Story. A big surprise that made me happy! This is Australia’s national award for excellence in science fiction, fantasy and horror, and is decided by judging panels. Winners will be announced later in the year.

Sunday June 13, 3.30-4pm AEST: Ways of Enchantment – a panel discussion (also via Zoom.)
The conference runs from June 12-14, with Monday June 14 a day of live presentations at Newtown Hall in Sydney – sadly, I won’t be there for that part. More info to follow.

Supanova Perth June 26-27 at the Convention Centre: I will be an author guest, which means I’ll be there all weekend. It’s a great opportunity to come and chat with me, get books signed, and probably see me on a panel. More details to follow.
